SAVANNAH – Alsie Imor Bateman Rabun, beloved wife of the late John Brewton Rabun, MD, died Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at Hospice Savannah. She was a devoted mother, caring sister, thoughtful daughter, delightful grandmother and great-grandmother, and sincere friend. She was a native of Waynesboro, GA but spent most of her life in Augusta, GA before moving to Savannah. She was the only daughter of the late Joseph Hayward Bateman and Minna Ruth Lively Bateman, and the sister of the late Joseph Hayward Bateman, Jr. of Augusta.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Savannah where she was a deacon, adult Bible teacher, wedding coordinator, Bible School teacher, president of the Women's Missionary Union, and headed various committees including the 100th celebration of the W.M.U. and the 175th anniversary of the Church. She served as hospitality chair for the GA Baptist Convention many times when it met in Savannah.
She was president of the Evergreen Garden Club, and chaplain of the Garden Club of Savannah as well as program vice-president. GUEST BOOK

John, I was so sorry to learn your mother had died. I remember your mother as a class mom, who became everyone's mother. We loved her and she loved us. She was such a wonderful example of a Christian mother, wife, and servant. And she was a beautiful southern lady through and through. You are in my prayers.

- Sandy McGee Slusher, London, KY

John, So sorry for your loss. I was sharing with some friends how we used to set the speed indicator on your moms car when she picked us up from wilder. It would go off and startle her every time we did it. Funny what things you remember that make you smile. Know you have many wonderful memories. Love, Susan

To all the Rabun family: We grew up knowing Alsie and John. My father and I practiced along side John. The Rabuns were wonderful mentors and genuinely good people. We miss him and will now miss her. When my Mother died at Savannah Square we found a note written by Alsie and left at her bedside, not realizing Mother had already died. What a wonderful example of a caring friend. Our blessings for you all.
